Loads and loads of pleats come along with breezy fabric and a flawy skirt, unfortunately this detail is not flattering for everyone unless you pick the right shape that suits your own body type. If you’re a pear shape, look for a sleeveless fitted dress – you can show off your slim upper body and emphasise the waist while the pleats create a roomy skirt to hide your rounder bottom. If an apple shape, then a pleated skirt might be the better choice – wear it with a boyfriend button up shirt and heels for some effortless chic.
Apart from choosing the silhouettes for different body types, there are also some common pleats shapes that can make you look awesome. The box pleats, which look like a box from the side, probably can fix most of the body problems. Go for a thicker fabric choice to create the sporty look (Alexander Wang offers the best design of this style).. The knife pleats which look like origami are the most common kind. If you don’t have a really toned midriff, try and avoid the skirt that is pleated all the way from the waist line to bottom… trust me the pleats part will “unfold” at the waist and make you look like you have a bigger tummy. Instead, go for the style that have the pleats sewed together from waist to mid-thigh to solve the problem.
